"Souper Supper" Linda and Ralph will host our monthly meeting with a wintertime dinner of soup to start. At this meeting, we plan our upcoming calendar of events, including our major events like the Anniversary Brunch in February and the Steak Out in June. Dinner starts at 6:30 in Middletown. Because this event is in a private home, you must be in touch with the host for more information, including directions and what you can contribute to the potluck dinner.

We're trying out a new location for our monthly brunch in January -- Angelico's Lake House, 81 North Main Street, East Hampton. It's an upscale place and we have place reserved on the all season porch overlooking the lake. Cost is $17 plus tax and tip (and our $1 event fee). RSVP's are mandatory! Directions: Take Route 66 from either Route 2 or Middletown and take North Main Street to the restaurant on the left.

A group of us will be carpooling to the annual dance for the Boston Beanstalks. We'll leave the Hartford / Springfield area late afternoon / early evening and stop for dinner along the way. The dance is from 9 PM to midnight at the Holiday Inn in Newton. Cost for the dance is $25, payable at the door. A flyer for the dance is posted in the files section. Dress to impress! Carpool organizers will be in touch with those who RSVP to organize the trip.

Weather permitting, Gloria will lead a hike at Penwood State Park in Bloomfield. This is a 3 to 4 mile hike, with a couple of options for the route to make a loop. Some elevation gain, but nothing to difficult. Plan to meet in the parking lot at Penwood at 2:00 PM.

Black Eyed Sally's is one of the best places to gather in downtown Hartford and we'll head over there for a Happy Hour at 6:00 PM. This one will be advertised in the newspaper and we hope will draw some new folks, so come on down and join us. Usually some people stay for dinner after.

Amy Gallatin and Stillwaters will peform at the Coffee House Concert Series at the Audubon Center in Glastonbury. Amy is a well-know local folk singer. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $14 for Audubonmembers and $15 for others. The concert starts at 7:30, plan to arrive a few minutes early for the best seats.

Some tall folks will be attending the annual Boars Head and Yule Log Festival at Asylum Hill Congregational Church. The Boars Head Festival is an old English tradition and a celebration of the Epiphany. It's a pageant with wonderful music, medieval costumes and live animals, all in the church sanctuary. (Vist www.ahcc.org for more information.) We'll be attending the 3:00 PM show. Tickets for this event will sell out, so if you wish to attend, you must call the church at 525-5696 and order your tickets -- $15 each for general admission. Then reply here so we can make plans to connect before the show starts.

First Night Hartford is an alcohol-free New Year's Eve celebration with a variety of activities going on throughout the downtown area. The night culminates with fireworks at Bushnell Park at midnight. Go to ! to see a list of performances and schedules. Join Kay at 5:30pm for a Tour of Bright Nights at Forest Park in Springfield. We'll carpool and see the lights and get in the Holiday Spirit.
